At DevXS we took the task of developing an application as part of a competition.
What is it?
We developed a program for lab safety which will provide information about chemicals and their properties, hazards, etc. For the application we intended to use a huge triples dataset which could be searched, however due to the complexity of the dataset we decided just to develop the concept of the application and a small prototype in Visual Basic.
How we do it?
We had hoped to use Java as it allows for multi-platform use and would be easy to port the application over to android OS.
Use for it?
It can be used to help promote safety in labs as students and other users could use their smartphones to see the information.
How we could improve it?
We could have liked to incorporate numerous databases and information sets into the prototype that we had developed.
